Practice the 7 T’s of mosquito control.

The 7 T’s of mosquito control will help keep mosquito invasions at bay around your Central Mass home.  There are things that we can all do around our homes, which will make our yards less enticing to mosquitoes.

TIP: If you have items around your yard, such as toys, water receptacle under downspouts, and plant saucers, tip them over.

TOSS: Tidy up your yard with each season.  Keep your yard free of grass clippings and leaves.

TURN: Turn over large outdoor items like wading pools, sandboxes, and bird baths.

mosquito controlREMOVE TARPS: Tarps that are used to protect fire wood or other outdoor items must be kept taut, or they will allow rainwater to pool.  If they cannot be stretched taut, remove them from your yard.

TAKE CARE: Take care of your home and yard by keeping gutters cleaned out, cutting your grass low, and ensuring that your sprinkler system is not leaking or over-watering to cause pools and puddles.

TEAM UP: Mosquito control should be a concerted effort between you and your neighbors.  Speak with them about maintaining their yards too.

TREAT:  Entrust additional mosquito control efforts to the professionals.  Hire a mosquito control company to apply barrier spray around your yard every two to three weeks in the spring, summer, and fall.

Use personal mosquito repellent away from home.

When you are out of doors away from home, be sure that you are protected from mosquito bites with personal mosquito protection.  Wear long sleeves and pants when you are hiking.  Use DEET or even an all-natural essential oils spray to keep mosquitoes at bay.  If you are at a backyard barbecue, consider wearing light colored clothing, as to not attract mosquitoes.
