When is mosquito season?

The northeastern United States is a high-risk mosquito-borne illness region.  Is there a defined mosquito season?

If being in the field of mosquito bite prevention has taught me one thing, it is that most people inaccurately label summertime as “mosquito season.”  While we do see more mosquitoes in the summer, this is not mosquito season.  Nature brings them out when the time is just right – but not only in the summer.

When is mosquito season?

In New England, mosquito season is longer than you might think.

If you live in New England, but vacation in Florida in the winter, you might have noticed that mosquitoes are active there in the winter.  Even though you haven’t thought about getting a mosquito bite at home for a while, you must carry protection with you on tropical winter vacations.  The reason that mosquitoes are active in Florida in the winter, is that their average temperatures do not fall low enough to force mosquitoes into dormancy.  In New England, mosquito season is early springtime through late fall.  This is because mosquitoes are active when temperatures remain above 45°F.  Once temperatures drop below 45°F, mosquitoes will go into hibernation.  Their eggs can freeze in the late fall and winter and emerge when the temperature rises in the spring.  This speaks to another common mosquito misconception – that mosquitoes die in the winter.  They can survive.

When is it time for Pawtucket mosquito control?

Professional Pawtucket mosquito control should be employed from early springtime through the late fall.  This means that you should call on your mosquito protection company in March or April, and schedule your barrier protection sprays all the way through the end of October.  EPA-registered barrier protection spray will work for about 21 days between applications, and effectively rid your yard of up to 90% of mosquitoes.  All-natural mosquito barrier protection is also available, which will repel about 80% of the mosquitoes away from your yard.  All-natural mosquito repellent will work for about two weeks between applications.

With the rising mosquito populations in our area, professional mosquito protection is essential.  You will feel safer knowing that your family and pets are amply shielded from the threat of mosquito-borne illnesses.  Your outdoor parties will go off without a hitch with the added protection of special event sprays too!
