Is that a mosquito bite that’s bugging you?

As part of nature’s plan, all wildlife has ways of protecting themselves and their territory.

Insects, such as mosquitoes, bees, ants, fleas, flies, wasps, and arachnids, may bite or sting if you get close. Most won’t bother you if you don’t bother them. But not all. Mosquitoes will bite you because that’s part of their grand plan. They need blood meals to reproduce.

Is that a mosquito bite?

This is a mosquito bite.

The initial contact of a mosquito bite may be painful. It’s often followed by an allergic reaction to venom deposited into your skin through the insect’s mouth or stinger. Most bites trigger nothing more than minor discomfort, but some encounters can be deadly, especially if you have severe allergies to the mosquito venom. Prevention is the best medicine, so knowing how to recognize and avoid biting and stinging insects is the best way to stay safe.

Not All Insects That Bite Us Do It Intentionally – But That Is Not The Case With Mosquitoes

According to Healthline, there are 10 flying and crawling insect animals that bite intentionally. Of those, five of these biters can be a thing of the past with regularly scheduled barrier treatment Chelmsford mosquito control.

Mosquitoes: Mosquitos may be small and have short lifespans, but they can wreak havoc on human lives. From their itchy bites, to the diseases they can carry, mosquitos are often annoying and sometimes deadly. Mosquitos are members of the fly family. They’re big enough that most people can easily see them with the naked eye.

Black flies: Black flies are small dark flies that come out during early summer and late spring. These flies are also called buffalo gnats because they have a humpback appearance. They suck blood as a necessary part of their reproduction process. The female black fly has to suck blood from an animal and human prey to complete the reproduction cycle.

Fleas: Fleas are tiny bugs. They don’t grow much larger than the tip of a pen, and they range from light brown to almost black in color. They don’t have wings, so they get around by jumping from place to place. Their thin, flat bodies and hard shells mean you often need to squeeze them between fingernails or two hard surfaces to kill them. Even then, where there is one, many often follow. Fleas reproduce quickly, especially if you have pets in the house. But even if you don’t have pets, your yard can potentially play host to fleas, and you may end up with a bunch of mysterious bites. They’re almost impossible to get rid of without an insect repellent treatment such as mosquito barrier control treatments.

Ticks: Ticks are common here in the Chelmsford area. They live outdoors in grass, trees, shrubs, and leaf piles. They are attracted to and seek out people and their four-legged pets, and can move between the two easily.

Horseflies: This fly’s mandible is what makes their bites so painful. The mandible is essentially the insect’s jaw. It’s shaped like scissors and can cut right into the skin. The horsefly mandible is also equipped with small hooks to help it lock in to feed better. Once the horsefly is locked in, it eats the blood from the skin. This bite can cause a sharp, burning sensation, including itchiness, inflammation, swelling around the bite area, and a bruise, in some cases.
